Office buildings are the third largest consumers of U.S energy on a unit area basis. In addition, they have one of the highest occupant densities of any building type. SERF’s office building criteria takes these aspects into consideration and certifies facilities for energy efficiency and occupant health and well-being among other aspects of green, high performance buildings.
In addition to the building performance, it is universally accepted that the operation of a building during its lifetime has an equal or greater impact on the environment. Thus to qualify for certification, SERF requires office buildings to also meet stringent requirements for efficient operation and maintenance.
