Joseph Maguire, MS, SFP, President
Mr. Maguire owns and rehabilitates commercial properties in Michigan and Florida. He is a specialist in the adaptive reuse of older structures and is a published author in that field. His business was an early pioneer in providing public green space and trails and continues to underwrite new public sculptures, bike trails and parks– including Maguire Park in Lansing, Michigan.
He served on the Redevelopment Board for the adaptive reuse of the Lansing Board of Water & Light’s Ottawa Station, a distinctive Art Deco landmark listed in the National Register of Historic Places and the new LEED Platinum home to Accident Fund Insurance Company of America. As a member of the Blue Ribbon Committee to Retain GM, he helped bring the world’s first LEED Gold manufacturing plant to Lansing.
His professional memberships include Urban Land Institute, International Council of Shopping Centers and AIA Chicago (professional associate). He is a Director of Mackinac Center for Public Policy and the Michigan Chamber of Commerce and President of Wharton Center for Performing Arts at Michigan State University. He also holds the SFP (Sustainability Facility Professional) designation from the International Facility Management Association (IFMA).
Mr. Maguire earned his Bachelors Degree in economics from Northwestern University and MS from the Columbia University Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation.

John Fiacco, Chairman
Mr. Fiacco leads the Advisory Board by bringing together thoughtful innovators who can support SERF’s goals. As a business leader, Mr. Fiacco has built and led successful companies that are characterized for their ability to pull together the best and brightest to improve and promote new ideas. These include Subimo, where he was a co-founder and grew it until it was acquired by WebMD, and at WebMD, where he contributed to the growth of the company through his leadership of the field sales team.
He has also worked in operational roles at CIGNA and Equifax and has served on several non-profit boards. John holds both a BS in Education and an MBA from Northwestern University.

Sinem Korkmaz, Ph.D., Advisory Board Chair
Sinem Korkmaz is a professor at Construction Management in the School of Planning, Design and Construction at Michigan State University. She is a LEED® accredited professional and received her Ph.D. degree from Penn State, Architectural Engineering Department with her dissertation on high performance green building delivery. Prior to her doctoral studies, she received a Master of Science degree under project construction and management option of the architecture graduate school at Istanbul Technical University in Turkey.

Stan Samuel, MS, Director of Sustainable Construction
Stan is a civil engineer and construction manager. He holds a BS in civil engineering from India and a MS in construction management from Michigan State University. His expertise includes design, project planning and project control of green buildings.
He has conducted research at Michigan State University on energy efficiency of buildings, funded by the US Department of Energy, and construction of renewable energy power plants, funded by ELECTRI International.

Jenni James, Regional Manager
Jenni James serves as Regional Manager in promoting SERF and SERF certification of sustainable buildings. Jenni brings a wealth of experience to SERF with 6 years’ experience as a designer and project coordinator with Logan Simpson Design in Phoenix, Arizona where she specialized in sustainable landscape design.
Jenni is a native of Chicago and studied architecture and landscape architecture at Arizona State University where she earned her BS in Landscape Architecture.

Sarah Redwine, Account Manager
Sarah is a graduate of Michigan State University, with a BA in Communication Arts. She joined SERF as Account Manager, after spending her senior year as a SERF marketing intern. As Account Manager, Sarah handles all general inquiries and those regarding SERF Certification.
